Alfred "Skip" J. Gorenflo

Alfred “Skip” Gorenflo, a long-time resident of Long Eddy, NY, died at his home surrounded by family on Saturday, November 9, 2024, after a 7-year battle with Alzheimer's. He was 80. Skip was the son of the late Ferdinand and Marie Biagiarelli Gorenflo. He was born on August 20, 1944, in Stamford, CT. Skip is survived by his loving wife Deb Gorenflo, whom he married on December 24, 2002; his children, Melanie Gilbert and her husband Raymond; Brenden Gorenflo and his wife Jean; grandchildren, Michaela Gorenflo, BJ Gorenflo, and Gabriel Gilbert; his sisters, Elaine Schempp, Nancy Shirk, Madeline Majette and Kathy Browne.

Skip graduated from Brewster High School in 1962 and completed several architectural design courses at SUNY Westchester Community College and was also certified in the design and installation of studio lighting. He studied CAD (computer-aided drawing) at Norwalk Community College and worked with complex blueprints and technical specifications. From 1963 to 1977, he was self-employed with a family-owned business, Skippy Construction. He worked on many high-end custom residential construction projects in the lower Fairfield County/Westchester areas. He was the project manager for the construction of several commercial/private art studios including the construction of specialized state-of-the-art electrical and HVAC building systems for several well-known artists and designed specialized construction of several underground bunkers to store collectible art and paintings. From 1977 to 1999 he was the Working Project Manager at M. Rondano Inc. and Northridge Associates of Stamford.

He provided design consulting services for million-dollar residential homes, working with clients from groundbreaking through securing permits, and guided all aspects of the building process through completion. He was especially known for his unique touches such as round walls and hand-carved mantels. From August 1999 to April 2014 he worked for the City of Stamford and the Board of Education with major school construction projects and was later the Maintenance and Construction Supervisor for the Water Pollution Control Authority.

Skip had a gregarious personality and lit up the room everywhere he went. He was very outgoing, charismatic, hardworking, and he loved life. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially kayaking, camping, and hiking and never missed a sunset if he could help it. His dream was to live in a cabin in the mountains and in 2011 that dream came true when he purchased the Francis W. Davis Wildwood Studio property outside Roscoe where he lived with his wife and black lab dogs. He was a wonderful friend, husband, father, and brother, and will be remembered for his sense of humor and fun-loving spirit.
