Anthony Darrell Johnson

Anthony Darrell Johnson, age 59, of Liberty, New York, peacefully passed away on May 23, 2026. Born on November 23, 1966 in Monticello, NY.

Anthony brought a unique spark, immense laughter, and an unforgettable smile that will forever be a light in our heart.

Anthony was a true "people person" who loved to talk, connect, and make others laugh. He was a funny, sensitive soul who proudly lived life by his own rules. He was sometimes shy but never a stranger.

Those who knew him closely will deeply miss his wit, his love for animals, and his beautiful habit of sending heartfelt greeting cards to his family to stay connected, no matter the distance.

Anthony was restoring his faith and making joyful change in his life. He wanted to give his life back to God and be a better person. He was a dedicated member of the Church of God in Liberty, New York, and a former member of Friendship Baptist Church.

His life was not always easy, but his spirit has always been light and welcoming. He has never met a stranger.

He leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory forever.

Anthony’s memory will be forever cherished by his loving father James Major, along with his stepmother, Zelphia Major of Pineland, SC. Anthony’s laughter lives on through his devoted sisters, Dr. Vanessa Harris of Columbia, SC, Mrs. Elaunda (Vicent) Jenkins of Estill, SC, and Ms. Cynthia McDaniels of New York; and his brothers, Deacon James “Dee” Major of Columbia, SC, Mr. Micheal McDaniels (Christine) of Kinston, NC, and Mr. Johnny Brickhouse of Las Vegas, NV. He leaves behind a dear uncle Jesse Dent of Lancaster, SC and a loyal friend Minister Boise Sellers, III of Monticello, NY.

He was predeceased in death by his mother Brenda Johnson, beloved grandparents Edward and Dorothy Major and dearest aunt Annie Edmond.

He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dedicated church family members, and dear friends who will miss his warmth, his conversations, and his laughter.

Visitation will be Monday, June 1, 2026 from 10-12 Noon at the Friendship Baptist Church, Ferndale, NY.

Funeral services will be Monday, June 1, 2026 at 12 Noon in the church. The Reverend Dr. Harry L. Brown, Jr., the Reverend Ruth Sellers, and the Minister Boise Sellers, III will officiate.

Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Cold Spring Road, Liberty, NY.
