Arthur James

Arthur S. James, 87, of Liberty, NY peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at the Garnet Health Medical Center, Harris, NY.

Born on January 18, 1936, in Colleton County, SC, Arthur was the son of the late Mack and Nancy Green James. Arthur had worked and retired as a machinist at Chester Cable in Orange County, NY.  During his free time, Arthur enjoyed fishing and repairing automobiles.  He was a long-time area resident of Liberty, NY and was a devoted member of the Mission Church of God. An active member of the community, Arthur was always willing to lend a helping hand to neighbors and friends.  He was a loving husband and father to many during his time here on Earth.

Survivors include six sons, Mackarthur James and his companion Sharon Parrish of Hardeeville, SC, Matthew James of Woodridge and his companion Heidi Debow, VA, Douglas James of Hurleyville, NY, Dennis James and his wife Terry of Neversink, NY, Albert James of Bowie, MD, and Ricardo James and his wife Veronica of Laurel, MD; his former daughter-in-law Alice E. Grant-James of Cornelius, NC; eleven grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  Along with their six sons, Arthur and Mary were blessed to raise four lovely nieces, Catherine Burney, Mary Louise Haynes and her husband Larry, Sylvia Holmes and Gloria Holmes-Frazier and her husband Maurice; as well as being a grandfather to their children and great grandchildren; one brother, Ned A. James and his children Lisa, Annette, Gwen, Sandra, Margie, and Ned Jr. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary Jane James on August 26, 2013.

Visitation will be Saturday, February 25, 2023 from 11 AM to 1 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, 115 West St, Liberty, NY.  Funeral services will begin at 1 PM in the funeral home.  The Rev. Ruth Sellers-Ward will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Liberty, NY.
