Carol Hook

Carol Hook, (Carol Stewart), age 86, of Liberty, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 4, 2026, at Garnet Regional Hospital in Middletown, NY.

Born on December 5, 1939, in Liberty, NY to Cyrus Jay Stewart and Nancy Stewart, Carol grew up in Liberty where she attended Liberty High School. She went on to become a wonderful wife, mom and homemaker and devoted herself to raising her family.

She loved square dancing as a young woman and regaled her children with the stories of her youth. She spent her early adulthood with the Ackerleys on the dairy farm in Grahamsville, NY where she learned all things farm life; from cooking and canning to hunting to parenthood from the strong women and kind men she loved, laughed with, worked with and respected, Archie and Bertha, Roger and Georgiana, Donnie and Loretta.

On February 15, 1970, she married the love of her life, Chester Hook, and together they built a life and family and shared 56 years of marriage. Carol was known for her warmth, her humor, and her fierce devotion to her family.

Carol (known lovingly as “Ma” to her children and their friends) loved cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting, her cats, flea marketing, and attending antique car shows. She was a member of Any Make and Model Car Club in Liberty where she loved to show off her 1979 red Ford Ranchero.

Above all, she cherished time with her family, especially holidays and family gatherings. Carol was adopted at birth and in recent years discovered additional family and siblings that she was able to meet and develop relationships with that filled her heart with incredible joy and happiness.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Chester; her children, Brenda Crenshaw of Brunswick, GA, Robin Kaylor of Neversink, NY, Sarah Hook

(Fesseha) of Nyack, NY and Mark Hook (Cheryl) of Liberty, NY; her eight grandchildren, Jemal, Amanda, Cristopher, Guy, Cortney, Emily, Skye and Shaw; her five great grandchildren, Roziland, Marceline, Sawyer, Maylen, and Leo; her sisters, Deloris Baker, Patty Farrell and Tina Lillie; her brother Charles Corigliano.

She was preceded in death by her adoptive parents Cyrus and Nancy Stewart and her birth parents Mary Abbie Cook and Harold Marks; her eldest daughter, Rosemary Schofield; and her brother John Allota.
