Daniel C. Smith

Danel C. Smith of Walton, NY, a lifelong area resident, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2026 at his home, with his daughter by his side. He was 78.

The son of the late William and Virginia Smith, he was born March 28, 1948 in Margaretville, NY.

Dan graduated from Downsville Central School in 1966 before serving Our Country in the US Air Force with the Canine Unit in Thailand. After his service, he worked for the NYS Department on Conservation and the US Postal Service until retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman, and he was happiest when he was hunting or fishing.

Survivors include his son, Matthew Smith; his daughter, Jackie Constable and her husband Darryl; his grandson, Kraygin; one brother, Bill Smith and his wife Janice; his sisters, Nancy Wall and Patti Krigbaum; many nieces and nephews; and his good friends, Steve Brown and Emmett Homovich.

Graveside services and burial will be Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 11 AM at Paige Cemetery, Downsville, NY. Following the services, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Veteran's Club, 10 Park Street, Walton, NY.
