Dawn M. LeRoy

Dawn M. LeRoy of Binghamton, NY formerly of Liberty, NY, died Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Our Lady of Lourde’s Hospital, Binghamton, NY.  She was 85.

The daughter of the late Walter E. and Dencie Beadle Thomas, she was born May 19, 1938 in Liberty, NY.

No matter the day, time, event or occasion, if there was a game on, you'd find Grandma in front of the TV with her knitting in her lap.If I close my eyes I can hear the sound of those knitting needles tapping against each other and Grandma talking to the TV. She knew every player, every trade, every move the Yankees made, good or bad.
She always referred to the team as "My Yankees".
"I need to find a TV to watch My Yankees" she'd say. I remember grandpa used to say that if he won the lottery he'd buy her a direct line to the Yankees Bull pen.
A few years back we surprised her with tickets to a game. The way her face lit up and the pure happiness in her eyes was unforgettable. We joke that Chris became her favorite because he took her to two games. I'm not so sure it was a joke though, he earned some Brownie points at the very least.
There were so many nights, when the game seemed to go on forever, Grandma wouldn't dare go to sleep. Didn't want to miss a moment. This seemed to be her mindset in life. Never missed an opportunity to decorate Christmas cookies with the grandchildren, to meet friends for lunch, to hop on a bus trip with her church group or to sit and catch up over coffee and donuts.
If baseball is a metaphor for life, today marks the end of one incredible season.
In heaven, there's always a game on and the Yankees always win.I know Grandma is sitting next to Grandpa right now, watching a game and knitting one of her famous baby blankets.

Every time "her Yankees" win, I'll smile knowing that Grandpa was finally able to give her that direct line to the bullpen. Cheering on her team and watching over her family for eternity.
