Donald Prince

Donald William Prince of Liberty, NY, a retired Sergeant for the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department and a lifelong area resident died Thursday, June 22, 2023 at home. He was 75.

The son of the late Donald S. and Elizabeth L. Zweck Prince, he was born March 3, 1948 in Liberty, NY.

Donnie, as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was a veteran and lifelong civil servant. During the Vietnam War, he was assigned to HHC 2nd Battalion 35th Infantry 4th Infantry Division Pleiku. After valiantly serving his country in Vietnam, he went on to serve his community, spending his entire 38 year career in law enforcement, beginning with the Liberty Police Department, and Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department until his retirement in 2007.

Donnie was a member of the Sullivan County PBA, the Fraternal Order of Police, and the Liberty Elk's Lodge # 1545.

Donnie was a deeply beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend. He loved golfing, boating, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, and fishing. He was a die-hard Yankees fan, and loved watching football on Sundays.

Survivors include one daughter, Tammy M. Prince of Warwick, NY; two sisters, Karan Johnson of Tennessee; and Trudy Crozzoli and her husband Giovanni of Liberty, NY; one brother, Steven Prince and his wife Mary of Liberty, NY; nieces Jamie Stern and husband Jon of Virginia; Lisa McGrath and husband David of Tennessee; Laraine King and husband Martin of England; Jennille Carpenter and husband Steven of Liberty, NY; and nephews Lance Prince of Liberty; Ian Prince and partner Christine of Neversink, NY; and Wayne Somers and wife Bianca of Livingston Manor, NY. Donald was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Prince of Liberty, NY.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 1 to 3pm in the Harris Funeral Home West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at 3pm at the funeral home. The Rev. Bridgette LeConey will officiate.

Burial with military honors in the Sullivan County Veteran's Cemetery Sunset Lake Road, Liberty, NY will immediately follow.
