Elizabeth Joffe

After fighting Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) for many years, Elizabeth "Liz" Joffe of Parksville, NY passed away early Sunday morning, April 24, 2011 at the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris, NY. She was 78 years old.

Born on November 13, 1932 in Léopoldville, Belgian Congo (present day Zaire) to Christian missionary parents Fredrick and Lucretia Rowe, Liz moved back to the States and attended High School in Forest Hills, NY and then pursued a career in fashion working as a fitting model for Anne Klein in Manhattan. In 1958 she married and had two children, Evan and Susan. Liz moved with the children from the city to the Catskills in 1974.

Liz was very creative and had a penchant for passing on her passions - especially her love of cooking. She was with The Center for Discovery in Harris, NY from 1991 to 2008, where she worked with many of the residents teaching them how to cook and develop an appreciation of everyday and holiday food.

She is survived by her son Evan Joffe of Orlando, FL and her two grandchildren Joel Joffe and Anne Joffe; and by her daughter Susan Caronia also of Orlando, FL and her two grandchildren Anthony Caronia and Katrina Caronia. She is also survived by her very close friend and goddaughter Cheryl Boehringer of Parksville, NY.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to National Breast Cancer Foundation www.national breastcancer.org, a cause important to her.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Harris Funeral Home West Street at Buckley, Liberty, NY. 845-292-0001 or 845-439-5200 www.Harris-FH.com
