Elma M. Smith

Elma M. Smith of Liberty, NY, a retired restaurant worker and a lifelong area resident died peacefully Thursday, September 25, 2025 at her home. She was 84.

The daughter of the late Louis N. and Thelma M. Reynolds Simpson, she was born April 13, 1941 in Liberty, NY.

Elma was passionate about seeing that people were fed while she enjoyed cooking and hosting.

Survivors include two sons, William L. Smith and Steven E. Smith, both of Liberty, NY; several nieces and nephews especially Doreen Thorpe and her husband Richard and their children, Samantha and Matthew; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, William A. Smith; her brother Delmont Simpson; sister-in-law Rita Simpson; and several nieces and nephews.

Special thank you to Kathy Meachum and her dog Coco for comfort and joy. Also, thanking the team from Orange and Sullivan Hospice. Thank you, Cindy, Kelly, Lauren, Nancy, TeJay, Ella, Joann, June, Tracy, Teresa, Lee, Travis, Debbie, and Denise who cared for mom.

Graveside service and Burial will be Friday, October 3, 2025 at 10 AM in Liberty Cemetery Cold Spring Road, Liberty, NY.
