Fuad Aby-Azar

Fuad Aby-Azar of Neversink, NY, a retired executive of Caloi, a bicycle manufacturer in Brazil, died on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at his home. He was 88. Son of the late Felix and Dalel Aby-Azar, he was born on January 10, 1937, in Registro, Brazil.

Fuad moved to the United States in July of 2023 to live with his daughter Cristina Aby-Azar and son-in-law Mark McLewin, local business owners. During the time Fuad was part of the community, he made strong connections thanks to his gentle manner, big smile and eagerness to know people better. Even with his limited English, he was able to communicate and open his heart to new friends. 

He had a particular interest in connecting with young people and many of them like to call him Grandpa. He loved animals and his garden.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Contrera Aby-Azar, at home; daughter Rosana Aby-Azar Sarmento and her husband Rui Sarmento in Porto, Portugal; one brother, Walter Aby-Azar and his wife Meire in São Paulo, Brazil; and one granddaughter, Camila Aby-Azar Façanha in Madrid, Spain.

Memorial services will be on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at 11 AM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Memorial contributions in Fuad’s name may be made to the Hospice of Orange and Sullivan Counties, 800 Stony Brook Ct. Newburgh, NY 12550.

Dignified cremation will be provided by the Harris Crematorium, LLC.
