Frank Joseph Petrocelli, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, educator, and accomplished professional musician whose career spanned more than four decades, passed away on April 16, 2026, in Liberty, New York. He was 92 years old.
Born on December 12, 1933, in Queens, New York, Frank discovered his lifelong love of music at an early age and went on to build a distinguished career as a performer and bandleader. He toured with the Jumpin’ Jaguars and the Si Zentnor Orchestra before ultimately settling in Sullivan County. There, he became a beloved fixture at the renowned Concord Hotel, where he performed for nearly 30 years, including more than a decade as the Bandleader. Throughout his career, he shared the stage with legendary entertainers including Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett, Lena Horne, Joan Rivers, and George Burns.
In the 1980s, Frank began a second calling as an educator, teaching music appreciation at Sullivan County Community College. He remained a dedicated and inspiring presence there for nearly 30 years. This dedication was formally recognized in 2014, when he became the first recipient of the State University of New York’s Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Lorraine; his son, Frank, and daughter-in-law Sharon Slote; his daughter, Lisa; and his cherished grandsons, Joseph and Benjamin. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Nettie Petrocelli; his brothers, Ernest and Robert; and his daughter, Siobhan Venezia.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, May 1, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Liberty, New York. Burial will follow at Liberty Veterans’ Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Albella Restaurant in Monticello, New York.
Frank will be remembered for his remarkable musical talent, his dedication to teaching, his sense of humor, his passion for the New York Mets, and his deep love for his family and community. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.
