Gerald A. "Skip" Tompkins

Gerald A. “Skip” Tompkins of Downsville, NY, a retired Heavy Equipment Operator with the Town of Colchester Highway Department and a lifelong area resident, died Monday, March 16, 2026 at the Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, NY. He was 83.

The son of the late William B. and Flora Foote Tompkins, he was born September 11, 1942 in Downsville, NY.

Skip was a longtime member of the Downsville Fire Department and a member of the Colchester Senior Citizens. He proudly served Our Country in the US Army as a helicopter mechanic in the early 60’s. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and repairing small engines.

Survivors include his three daughters, Kelli Adamson and her husband, Steven of Downsville, NY, Terri Nocella of Corbett, NY, and Karin Tompkins and her companion, Joe of Interlaken, NY; six grandchildren, Austin, Cierra, Corra, Jacob, Corbin, Olivia; a great-grandchild, Rachel; a sister, Marie Rose of Napanoch, NY; and his dear friend Connie Young of Downsville, NY. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Ellen Ruth in 2018, six brothers and three sisters.

Visitation will be Friday, March 27, 2026 from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Harris Funeral Home Railroad Ave, Roscoe, NY 12776.

Memorial service will be Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 11 AM in the Colchester Community Church, Downsville, NY. Pastor Christine Lindeberg and Deacon Cliff Olsen will officiate.
