Grace Jones

Grace R. Jones of Downsville, NY, a retired long-time Tax Collector for the Downsville Central School District, died Thursday, August 10, 2023 at the Roscoe Regional Rehab and Residential Healthcare Facility in Roscoe, NY.  She was 94.

The daughter of the late William and Grace Thorp Ricker, she was born July 19, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY. Grace was a proud survivor of the Great Depression and often spoke of how she and her family survived those hard and difficult times with an endless supply of love, laughter, and family. She carried the lessons learned during the Depression throughout her life and always made sure that anyone coming to her house had a seat at her table where they were always treated as family. Her dinners brought friends and family from near and far, but it was her incredible baking skills that made her a legend to all that had the good fortune to eat one of her cookies, cakes, or pies.

She met the love of her life, Harry Jones Jr. in Stony Point, NY and they were married in 1949. They owned and operated Jones’ Deli on the shores of the Hudson River before moving to Downsville, NY in 1977 where they operated the Pepacton Sports Center for many years. In their retirement years, they both enjoyed traveling and venturing off on numerous trips to the casinos. They considered their family to be their greatest treasure and loved watching their three boys grow and expand the family. They adored spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as several close friends who all became a part of their family. At the time of Harry’s death in 2019 they had just celebrated 70 years of marriage, an accomplishment they were both very proud of.

Survivors include three sons, Barry Jones and his wife Laurie of Downsville, NY, Craig Jones and his wife Sherry of Campbell Hall, NY and Chris Jones and his fiance’ Annie Baer of Downsville, NY; five grandchildren, James Joseph, William Joseph, Renee Lamonica and Michael, Matthew Jones and Alex, Adam Jones and Kelley Miller; four great grandchildren, Jordan Joseph, Thalia Joseph, Harrison Lamonica and Ari Lamonica; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous close friends.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Jones, Jr., a daughter, Jill Ann Jones, her sister, Gertrude Thomas and her husband Gerald.
