Harry A. McCune, 101, a longtime resident of Hyde Park, died on February 12, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
Born March 25, 1923, in Livingston Manor, NY, he was the son of the late Harry A. McCune Sr. and Elsie Hector McCune.
A proud United States Army veteran of World War II, Harry participated in the air offensive over Europe, Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland.
He was an avid golfer and downhill skier well into his nineties.
Mr. McCune worked at IBM in Poughkeepsie for over thirty years until his retirement.
On October 9, 1946, in Livingston Manor, he married the former Mary Jane Nonnon. His wife predeceased him in 2007.
Survivors include his two daughters, Kathleen Simpson and husband, Robert, and Elizabeth McCune, both of Hyde Park; two grandchildren, Stephanie Swartz and husband, Donald, of Red Hook, and Dana Veith and wife, Lauren, of Staatsburg; four great-grandchildren, Erin and Nathaniel Swartz, both of Red Hook, and Channing and Cameron Veith, both of Staatsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his beloved corgi, Molly.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Leo McCune, and sister, Shirley Rode.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. His ashes will be buried in the family plot in Riverview Cemetery, Roscoe, NY on August 9, 2025 at 12 Noon.
