James Mark Avery

James Mark Avery of Liberty, NY, a retired Maintenance Superintendent for the Crystal Run Village-ARC in Fallsburg, NY and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at his home. He was 69.

The son of the late Peter and Marie Cilvik Avery, he was born January 30, 1956 in Monticello, NY.

James proudly served Our Country in the US Air Force and was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Catskill O.B.’s, a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Liberty Elk’s Lodge #1545, and a member of the NRA. He was a Communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church in Liberty where he had served as an Alter Boy in his youth. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing.

Survivors include two aunts, Joan Booth of Monticello, NY and Marilyn Cilvik of Wilkes-Barre, PA; his cousins, Ralph Cilvik and his wife Cathy, Lynn Cilvik, Ruth McManus, David Cilvik, Candice Cilvik and her companion Brandon, Carrie Bubul and her husband Jesse, Brian Cilvik and his wife Chrissy, Jack Booth, and Kathy Bunce.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 21, 2025 from 4 to 6 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

The Catskill O.B’s will commence services at 6 PM Wednesday, May 21, 2025 in the funeral home. The Liberty Elk’s Lodge # 1545 will follow with Fraternal Services and the Military Honors will conducted by an Air Force Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions in James’ name may be made to the Liberty Elks Lodge #1545, 21 John Street, Liberty, NY 12754.

Dignified cremation will be provided by the Harris Crematorium, LLC.
