John Hannon

John Joseph Hannon of Loch Sheldrake, NY, a retired electrician and a long time area resident died Sunday, July 31, 2022 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY. He was 87.

His wife, Mariette Hannon-Meeus predeceased him in July, 2020. The son of the late Francis Sheldrake and Lillian Mornweig Hannon, he was born December 13, 1934 in Brooklyn, NY. John, or “Mickey” as many knew him, lived a very full life. John served in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1963. For many years, he lived in Jamaica Estates, Queens while working as an electrician in New York City, a job he truly loved. After moving from Jamaica, Queens ,a family summer home in Loch Sheldrake eventually became his main settlement. John considered Loch Sheldrake his true home. Life in Loch Sheldrake spoke to John's love of nature and its outdoor activities. He greatly enjoyed swimming in the lake daily, and in younger years, waterskiing with close friends. Several trophies of his best hunting prizes adorn the walls of his home and are reminiscent of wonderful memories from deer camp. However, it was the close relationships with his friends of Loch Sheldrake that John spoke of most, and the reason why it was his true home.

John's other favorite lifelong settlement was Acapulco, Mexico, where he went to escape New York winters. In his younger years, Mexico brought him many memorable days of scuba diving and fishing. Later on, Mexico brought him true love when he met his wife Mariette. John truly relished the warm Acapulco weather and its beautiful beaches where he would go daily. Later in life, John was always thankful for his Mexico friends who helped him continue to visit the beach and its waters. With Mariette, John found someone who shared a love of travel and a love of nature. Life with Mariette brought European travels which were added to his long list of adventures. Together they frequently visited Belgium to reunite with Mariette's closest family and friends.

Indeed, John's was a life well-lived and he will be missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his brother Edward Hannon, Sr., sister Kathleen Hoschler, brother-in-law Edward Hoschler, Sr., nieces and nephews Charlene Goggin, Edward Hannon, Jr., Deborah Serino, Edward Hoschler, Jr. and Richard Hoschler. He is survived by his many dear and closest friends in Loch Sheldrake who were like family to him. He is also survived by his family by marriage in Belgium.
