Juan Rios, Sr.

Juan F. Rios, Sr. of Liberty, NY a produce manager for 48 years at the Great American in Liberty, NY and a long time area resident died, Monday, December 4, 2017 at his home.  He was 87.

The eldest son of the late Juan Isadoro and Antonia Santiago Rios, he was born March 15, 1930 in Utuado, Puerto Rico.

Juan was known to most as Frank; he was a very strong willed and hardworking man.  He had worked in the super market industry for his adult life; there wasn’t a piece of fruit or a vegetable he didn’t know and he took pride in that.  However, his greatest passion was farming.  Growing up in Puerto Rico, he helped on the family plantation and when he arrived in the states he continued the passion of farming and gardening.  He enjoyed building things with his own hands, mowing the lawn, golfing and he was a big Mets Fan.   Juan was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church.

He leaves behind to remember him, his spouse, Irma J. Cook Rios; his children, Diana James of San Antonio, TX, Patricia Taylor and her husband Doug of Vacaville, CA, Jeanette Donnelly of Jackson, NJ, Juan Rios, Jr. and his wife Laura of Woodbourne, NY, Miguel Rios and his wife Noreen of Montgomery, NY, Elena Knight and her husband Ben of Neversink, NY, and Juanita Rios of Liberty, NY; 16 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Tony and Beto; and his sister, Gloria.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 10 AM to 12 Noon in the Harris Funeral Home, West. St at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 12 Noon in the funeral home.  Father William Scafidi will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Liberty, NY.
