June Stoesser

June D. Stoesser of Johnstown, NY formerly of Roscoe, NY, died December 15, 2018 at the Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown, NY.  She was 91.

The daughter of the late Arthur E. and Arminda McCassey Vosburgh, she was born June 30, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Her mother passed away at an early age and she was raised by an aunt and uncle, Ernest and Edna Spencer of Fort Plain, NY.  She was a graduate of the Fort Plain Central School and in July of 1945 she married Robert Lord of Nelliston, NY.

In 1948 she, in partnership with her husband and in-laws, purchased the Canada Lake Store which they operated successfully until it was sold in 1961.  In that same year they purchased the amusement park at Pine Lake.  She remained a partner in that business until the time of her divorcee in 1965.

In 1966, she married Melvin C. Stoesser.  From 1972 until the time of his death, she resided Roscoe in a home designed and built by Mel.

June retired from Reader’s Digest in Pleasantville, NY where she had worked in the taxes and statistics department; she had also worked for Sullivan Wholesales in Liberty, NY.    Throughout her life she was an avid historian and genealogist.

Survivors include her son, Lansing Lord (Meredith) of Johnstown, NY, a daughter, Charee Lord of San Francisco, CA;  half-brother, Robert Vosburgh (Peg) of Denver, CO,  half-sister Patricia Voshburg-Huck (Wesley) of Bolton Landing, NY; and four grandchildren, G. Brandon Wilbur, Bridget Wilbur, Spencer Lord, and Heather Lord (Jason) as well as four great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Melvin C. Stoesser, and half-sister, Sharon Heindrick.

Graveside services and burial will be Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10 AM in the Paige Cemetery, Downsville, NY.  The Rev. Robin Sostak will officiate.

Memorial contributions in June’s name may be made to the Roscoe Free Library, 85 Highland Ave., Roscoe, NY 12776.
