Karen Ann Barley Jones

Karen Ann Barley Jones of Liberty, NY, passed away on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility in Liberty, NY. She was 83.

Karen was the daughter of the late Winfield W. and Carolyn (Ernhout) Barley, she was born July 16,1942 in Middletown, New York.

Karen graduated from Liberty High School, Class of 1960 and Becker Junior College, Worcester, MA, Class of 1962.

She was married to Arthur Daniel Jones, who passed away on March 14, 1993. They were married for 25 years. In later years, she became the significant other of William A. Beach, who passed away on June 1,2020.

Karen was employed by the Sullivan County Department of Social Services for 30 years. After retirement, she was employed at a few part-time jobs and then became employed full-time at the Liberty Central School.

Karen was a member of the Liberty Elks Lodge #1545, the Catskill Region Antique Car Club, the Any Make Any Model Car Club, the Gouverneur, NY Lions Club, and the Town of Rockland Seniors Club.

She enjoyed bowling and playing golf.

She is survived by one sister, Cynthia (Don) Short; one brother John (Linda) Barley; nieces, Amanda Short, Melissa (Scott) Scheidelman, Allison (Brian) Pena, and Heather (Biff) Lathrop; great-nieces and great-nephews Jake, Alex, and Abby Scheidelman; Laney and Gabby Pena; and Carsyn and Harrison Lathrop; and her special friends Flora and Tom Reilly.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 4-7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY. Liberty Elk’s Lodge # 1545 will conduct fraternal services at 7 PM Wednesday evening in the funeral home.

Funeral service will be Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 10 AM in the funeral home. The Reverend Paul Minton will officiate.

Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery Cold Spring Road, Liberty, NY.
