Laura L. Sojka

I say this with a heavy heart on Friday, April 24, 2026 my mother Laura Lee (Rakowski) Sojka passed away on suddenly.

She was born on July 13, 1952 in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey. Her mother Rita Rakowski (Rodemer) and her father Thaddeus (Tad) Rakowski Sr.  Both parents are deceased. She has one sister and three brothers. She was the oldest of her siblings.

Laura was married to her late husband, George M Sojka Sr. for almost 45 years but George Sojka passed away on December 20 of 2021. She became a widow. She left behind three adult children, George (Georgie) M. Sojka Jr., Nicole Michelle Martinez (Sojka) with son-in-law Jesus E Mendez, and Heather Marie Sojka. She left behind a grandson Elijah Mendez that she loved and adored. He was her only grandson. She cherished the moments with him he made her smile and made her laugh.

Laura had an open home to whoever wanted a safe place to stay or visit or even talk. Laura was a pleasant person and a joy to be around. Everyone loved her and she is remembered dearly. Laura had a lot of various jobs. She worked as a waitress, housekeeper, and her last job was a PCA for WillCare in Kingston, New York. Laura had a massive stroke in August 12 of 2014 in her sleep. It left her paralyzed on her left side to where she needed full assistance with care. It would’ve been 12 years stroke patient. Her wishes have always been to be cremated and be spread in the ocean in New Jersey where she would be at peace Laura love being close to the ocean.

At this time, Laura's family is celebrating her life privately.
