Laurence Austin

Laurence G. "Butch" Austin of White Sulphur Springs, NY, a retired school bus driver for Gershowitz Bus Company, Liberty, NY and a long time area resident, died Friday, July 14, 2017 at Good Samaritan Regional Hospital, Suffern, NY.  He was 76.

The son of the late Alfred Joseph and Anna Hennenberg Austin, he was born July 18, 1940 in New York City, NY.

Butch was a life member of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department; and a member of the Catskill IOOB Chapter # 583.

Survivors include his wife, Jean M. Goode Austin, at home; three sons, James "Mutt" Austin and his wife Paula of Livingston Manor, NY, Larry "Skeeter" Austin and his companion Laurie Ferber of White Sulphur Springs, NY, and Scott Austin and his wife Anna of White Sulphur Springs, NY; one daughter, Pamela Jones and her husband Rory of Hurleyville, NY; three brothers, Lee Jerry Austin and his wife Nancy of Holcott Center, NY, Alfred Austin and his wife Bobbie of NC, Lemuel Austin and his wife Rosetta of Loch Sheldrake, NY; one sister, Jennifer Startup and her husband Alan of Kerhonkson, NY; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by six sisters.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 4 to 7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

The White Sulphur Springs Fire Department will conduct firematic services on Sunday evening at 7 PM in the funeral home.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11 AM in the funeral home.  The Rev. Bridgette LeConey will officiate.

Memorial contributions in Butch's name may be made to Rocky's Refuge 185 Lake Street, Liberty, NY 12754 or to the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department, PO Box 86, White Sulphur Springs, NY 12787.
