Maria "Mary" Piccione

Maria Rose Piccione (née Scandariato), formerly of Roscoe, NY, passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2017.  She was 89 years old.  She had moved to Wilson, North Carolina, in 2010.

The daughter of the late Pietro and Antonina Scandariato, she was born April 24, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY.

Mary was known for her volunteer work in her community; she was well known as a choir singer at Gate of Heaven Church, Roscoe, and was especially known for her kindness and love for others. Mary had a tremendous fighting spirit for life.  After World War II, she worked for CARE, Inc. with her husband, Patric Piccione, providing food and aid to war-ravaged populations of Europe.  Later she worked on Wall Street.  After her family moved to Roscoe in 1970, she worked for Daytop Village, Parksville, then Delaware Valley Job Corps Center, Callicoon.

Mary is survived by her sons, Tal Piccione, and wife, Lena, of Upper Saddle River, New Jersey, Peter Piccione of Charleston, South Carolina, and her daughter, Nina Piccione Hocutt of Wilson; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Patric Piccione; and a daughter, Lauranne Piccione Byrne of Tuncurry, Australia, and one daughter-in-law, Myrna Lane Piccione.

Visitation will be Friday, November 3, 2017 from 7 to 9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Avenue, Roscoe, NY. Father Edward Bader will conduct vigil services at 7:30 PM in the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11 AM in the Gate of Heaven Church, Roscoe, NY.  Father Peter Chepaitis will officiate.

Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Roscoe, NY.
