Marlyn Walters

Marlyn Walters of Roscoe, NY, a longtime area resident, died Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Center, Liberty, NY.  She was 94.

The daughter of the late Ralph and Hertha Bowers Quick, she was born July 28, 1929 in Livingston Manor, NY.

For many years Marlyn worked as a licensed auctioneer calling auctions for others; she also owned and operated Auction Halls in Liberty and Livingston Manor; In the 1960's she owned a luncheonette in Sodus Point, NY, and in 1969 operated a Monticello, NY, gas station during the Woodstock Festival. She also owned several other businesses.

Later in life, she had worked as a waitress at the Roscoe Diner and other various restaurants.  She is remembered as a skilled organist and singer that regularly entertained others, including performing at the Nursing and Rehab Center in Roscoe, NY. 

Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews;  her grandson, Steven William Ray and Daughter-in-Law, Sue Gomer-Ray of Williamson, NY.  She was predeceased by two sons, Donald Ralph Ray and infant William John Ray; one granddaughter, Randi Ray; and her siblings, Orman Quick, Robert Quick, John Quick, Dorothy Quick, and Margery Mae Hathaway.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 16, 2023 from 12 PM to 2 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave. Roscoe, NY. Funeral services will begin at 2 PM.

Dignified cremation provided by Harris Crematorium, LLC; burial of cremains will be in the Hurleyville Cemetery, Hurleyville, NY.

Memorial Contributions in Marlyn’s name may be made to the Randi Ray Memorial Fund C/O the Williamson Central School District, 4184 Miller St., Williamson, NY 14589.
