Paul D. Muthig

Paul D. Muthig of Parksville, NY, a journeyman Ironworker with Iron Workers Local 417 in Wallkill, NY and a lifelong area resident, died Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at the Achieve Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility, Liberty, NY. He was 90.

The son of the late Jerome and Nellie Grant Muthig, he was born February 21, 1935, at the family farm in Aden.

Paul attended Tri-Valley School and enlisted in the US Marines in 1954, with an honorable discharge in 1957. He went on to earn his G.E.D. Paul worked on many memorable jobs through his years in the Iron Workers Local 417 including the old Shea Stadium and Throggs Neck Bridge, both in New York City.

Paul and his brothers were well known for their work ethic and skills. Paul was an avid motorcyclist, hunter, and snowmobiler, and loved to travel. He loved to tell stories of his cross-country motorcycle trips. Paul was a member of Aden Hunting Club, The NRA, Sullivan Co. Trail Association, Aden Night Riders Snowmobile Club, The Intl. Campers Club, Time & the Valleys Museum, The Tri-Valley Squares, square dancing club.

Survivors include his wife and partner in adventure for over 50 years, Cheryl Sprague Muthig, at home; his children, Sheryl Muthig Blume, Paul J. (Christine) Muthig, Kari Hawkins, Krista Muthig, and daughter-in law, Dina Muthig; his grandchildren, Allison, Kevin & Derek Blume, Helen McCombs, Tiffany & Cecil Hawkins, Sunsaree Van Aken, Savaiyah Lee and Olivia Muthig; 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; his in-laws, Stephen (Diane) Sprague, Mariellen Bowers, Beverly Muthig and Dorothy Muthig, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Grant, Calvin, Clyde, Blake, Harold, Raymond and Michael (infant); his sisters, Mildred Huggins, Hazel Raflowitz, Doris Coon, Fern Muccino and Annette Brown; his son, Kyle J. Muthig; his daughter, Valerie Muthig Mott and his grandson, Ryan Thomas Blume.

Visitation will be Monday December 8, 2025 from 4-7 PM in the Harris Funeral Home West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 11 AM at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 264 North Main Street, Liberty, NY. Father Edward Bader will officiate.

Burial with military honors will be in the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, Sunset Lake Road, Liberty, NY
