Richard Dunn

Richard Barlow Dunn died on April 10, 2024 in Roscoe, New York at the age of 89. Born in Chicago on August 20, 1934, to Dorothy McMicken and Barlow A. Dunn, he later became the grateful step son of David W. Morgan of Peoria, IL. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Catherine Schroen Dunn; a son, Jeffery G. Dunn of Spring Glen, NY; a daughter, Tracey E. Dunn of Livingston Manor, NY; a grandson, Zachary Curtis Meroe; a daughter-in-law, Lisa Horan-Dunn; and a step brother, Gary D. Morgan of Tuscon, AZ. He was a decades long resident of the Catskills, and also in retirement, the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

A graduate of Bradley University, McCormick Theological Seminary, and New York Theological Seminary, he did post-graduate work at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and was a Lilly Fellow in Psychology and Religion at The University of Illinois. Formerly a Presbyterian minister, he held pastorates at First Presbyterian Church of Monticello, IL, Edgewater Presbyterian Church of Chicago and taught at McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago. A civil rights advocate in the 1960's, he was in the March on Washington and worked voter registration drives in Hattiesburg, MS.

A Professor of Psychology for almost three decades at SUNY Sullivan in Loch Sheldrake, NY, he helped create The Alcoholism/Drug Abuse Counselor Program, boasting that he was surrounded by "the most diverse students and some of the most generous and gifted colleagues any teacher could wish for". He consulted at Villa Veritas and Daytop and made fourteen trips overseas to train European drug counselors.

In conclusion - in his own words - "I chose to travel blatantly to the end of my life as the ola fool I am, writing amateur verse, walking extensively around Manhattan with Catherine, and savoring dear friends."
