Robert A. Homovich of Downsville, NY, a retired stone cutter, former Town Supervisor for the Town of Colchester, and lifelong area resident died Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, NY. He was 74.
The son of the late Alexander and Janet A. Conklin Homovich, he was born February 2, 1944 in Bainbridge, NY.
Bob was a graduate of Downsville Central School and Broome County Police Academy. He spent his life working in the Bluestone Industry and working to improve the quality of life in the Community. Joining the Downsville Fire Department as a young man, he served for over 53 years; he was a Charter Member of the Downsville Emergency Squad; he served as a police officer for the Town of Colchester for twelve years; a Town Councilman for eight years; Town Supervisor for sixteen years; the Town Police Commissioner for sixteen years; the Delaware County Budget Director as a Supervisor on the Board of Supervisors for two years; Chairman of the Delaware County Boy Scout Committee and the Downsville Boy Scout Council; President of the Downsville Fish and Game Club; a D.E.C. Hunter-Safety Instructor; Past President of the O & Y Hunting Club; former President of the Downsville Lions Club: the last President of the Roundup Ranch Country Club and the last person to get a hole-in-one on the Golf Course (Hole 7); member of the Colchester Chamber of Commerce; Member of the Delhi Pistol Club; and a former member of the Eagle Hotel Bowling Team.
Survivors include his wife Shirley Pinner Homovich of 55 years, whom he married Jan. 19, 1963 at home; one son, Robert M. Homovich and his wife Kristin of Crestview, FL; one daughter, Lori Shaver and her husband Arthur of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother, Thomas Homovich and his spouse Gary Worbel of Cohoes, NY; three sisters, Sandra Homovich and her partner Becky Liddell of Downsville, NY, Joan Homovich of Downsville, NY, and Donna Triebe of Downsville, NY; his grandchildren, Katie Shaver, Alana Shaver, Macy Barton, Katelynd Barton, Jett Barton, and Michael Robert Homovich; his nieces and nephews, Harry Triebe and his wife Brittany, Alex Triebe, Theresa Burnham and her husband Stephen, Dominic Amato, Stacey Dennis, Kelly Besic and her husband Peter, Christopher Hoffman, and Carli and Jerad Pinner; several cousins, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 3 to 5 PM and 7 to 9 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, Railroad Ave, Roscoe, NY.
Firematic Services will be conducted by the Downsville Fire Dept. Sunday evening at 7PM in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11 AM in the Colchester Community Church Main Street, Downsville, NY. Father R.L. Donahue will officiate.
Burial will be in Paige Cemetery, Downsville, NY.
