Roger Augustus Dannic, Sr., of Callicoon, NY, a long-time resident of the area, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, surrounded by his children, at the Allied Services Hospice Center in Scranton, PA. He was 82 years old.
Roger was born on May 16, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Augustus Francis Dannic and Dorothy Therese Walsh Dannic.
A proud veteran, Roger served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1965 as a Radio Operator, achieving the rank of Specialist E-4 before being honorably discharged. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion.On June 22, 1968, Roger married Emily Agnes Semple Dannic in Brooklyn, NY. They spent the next three years in Brooklyn before relocating to Florham Park, NJ, in 1971, where they raised four children. In 2020, Roger and Emily moved to Callicoon , NY.
Throughout his career, Roger worked tirelessly to support his family, commuting daily to New York City and later Somerset, NJ, where he served as a Managing Director of Card Services for Merrill Lynch Financial Services. He also contributed to his community as a member of the Florham Park Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed coaching his sons and daughter on several Little League baseball and softball teams. After retiring from Merrill Lynch Roger spent 18 years as a school bus driver for the Florham Park School System. Upon relocating to Callicoon, he became an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, where he regularly attended Mass and served as a lector.
Roger was a lifelong fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and often reminisced about the team. He enjoyed playing golf and cherished spending time with his family on the Delaware River.
Roger is survived by his sons, James Dannic and his wife Gretchen Lomker Dannic of Callicoon, NY; Michael Dannic of Callicoon, NY; Roger Dannic, Jr. of St. Petersburg, FL; his daughter, Patricia Dannic of Callicoon, NY; his sister, Susan Frerks and her husband William of Milton, DE; as well as many other relatives. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Emily Agnes Dannic, on May 3, 2025.
Visitation will be Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Holy Cross Church, Route 97, Callicoon, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 AM, with Father John Kennady officiating. Burial will take place at Callicoon Cemetery, Callicoon, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Roger’s name to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.
