Rosa Darlene Howell

Rosa D. Howell, known to most as Darlene of Roscoe, NY passed away peacefully in her bed Monday, January 26, 2026 at her home.

She was the daughter of the late Louise Willams Hart, she was born August 19, 1961 in Asheville, North Carolina. She was just 64.

Before moving north, Darlene shared a home on Rockdale Ave in Black Mountain with her late husband and the love of her life, Tony Burgess, and their two children, Alicia & Marty. Known to most everyone as “Granny”, she will be sincerely missed. Granny loved to cook a big meal for her family, gossip on the porch with friends and a few cups of coffee, and hold her grandbabies and great-grandbabies. Granny loved to sit and talk about her life, her tribulations and impart wisdom on the younger generations. She was resilient, warm, and always had a smile for the kiddos who loved her dearly.

She’s survived by her children, Alicia Phillips and her husband, Daniel; Marty Pringle and his wife, Rosie; and her grandchildren: Jessie, Anthony, Hayleigh, Josh, Cheyanne, Nikki, Toni, Randy, and Mystie, as well as many (many!) great grandchildren.

At this time, Darlene’s family will celebrate her life privately.
