Roy F. Gorton

Roy F. Gorton of Roscoe, NY, a retired lineman for NY Telephone Company and a lifelong area resident died Thursday, August 13, 2026 at the Garnet Health Hospital in Middletown, NY. He was 95.

The son of the late Vernon and Marjorie Benton Gorton, he was born December 2, 1930 in Liberty, NY.

Roy is a former member and Past Chief of the Rockland Hose Company #1 and had served as a Fire Commissioner for the Rockland Hose Company Fire District. He is a former member of the Roscoe-Rockland Volunteer Ambulance Corp., and a former member of the Town of Rockland Assessment Board of Review. While employed for 29 years at the telephone company he served as a Shop Steward for the Communication Workers of America. He enjoyed working outdoors, spending time at local high school sporting events where he photographed players in action, traveling, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Margaret J. Fogarty Gorton, at home; two daughters, Amy Hill and her husband Michael of Roscoe, NY and Carrie Gorton of Marion, NY; two sons, Andrew Gorton of Austin, Texas and Timothy Gorton and his wife Erica of Roscoe, NY; one sister, June Tillson of No. Ft. Myers, FL; three brothers, Clair Gorton, Keith Gorton, and Aquilla Gorton; nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his brother, Doug Gorton.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 19, 2026 from 4-6 PM in the Harris Funeral Home Railroad Ave., Roscoe, NY.
