Shirley passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026. Born on February 6, 1944, in the charming town of Callicoon, New York, Shirley was the daughter of Fred and Audrey Miller of Harris, NY.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents and her son, Wayne Van Vleet. She is survived by her son, Scott Van Vleet, grandson, Brandon Van Vleet, brother, Bruce Miller, nephew Darren (and Dawn) Miller, and great-niece Kaitlyn Miller.
A proud alumna of Monticello High School, Shirley graduated in 1961 and went on to attend Delhi College. She later earned an Associate of Arts degree from Florida Atlantic University. With a strong work ethic, Shirley worked several jobs, including a career as a salesperson, selling coffee for Aramark Co. She later found joy working as an usher for the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Shirley was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, affiliated with the Free Masons. Shirley had a passion for animals and her home almost always included a dog, including Lady, Kipling, Morgan, Karma, and Max among them. She enjoyed entertaining guests at her home, and she was renowned for her culinary skills, with the comforting aromas of her favorite dishes: spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna, and potato salad.
A service to honor Shirley's remarkable life will be held on November 12, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Lutheran Cemetery of Jeffersonville, located at 4974 NY-52, Jeffersonville, NY 12748.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Shirley's name to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
