Ursula Richardson Powell, daughter of the late Lucinda Jones Richardson and the late James Irvin Richardson, was born August 16, 1962 in Albany, Georgia. Ursula was joined in Holy Matrimony to John Powell, and with this union, their daughter Leila Powell was born on July 26, 2005.

Ursula was educated in the Dougherty County Georgia School System and graduated at the age of 16 from Monroe High School. After graduation she attended Albany State College for 2 years. At the age of 18 she enlisted in the U.S. Navy where she proudly served her country for several years and earned the honor of being commissioned as an Officer. During that time she also received dual degrees in Interdisciplinary Studies and Nursing from Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA. She used her degrees to work as a Nurse for several years in hospitals and jails.

Ursula confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and joined Union Missionary Baptist Church in Albany, GA, where she attended until enlisting in the military. She continued to serve the Lord until her final hours.

In the early morning hours on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, God made the final call to relieve her from her pain, suffering, and struggles so that her soul may rest in peace. He looked out on the battlefield and saw a soldier who had bravely fought a long battle and He called her home for her reward.

Ursula was preceded in death by her loving parents Lucinda Jones Richardson and James Irvin Richardson, her beloved aunt Linda Sessions (Anthony), and her dear cousin Romaine Richardson.

Precious memories of her beautiful life will always remain with her loving and devoted family, which includes Her devoted husband John Powell and beloved daughter Leila Powell of Callicoon, NY, Four brothers: Kenneth Richardson (Cherie) of Lithonia, GA, James Richardson of Albany, GA, Marcus Richardson (Kimberly) of McDonough, GA, and Erick Richardson (LaTonia) of Hiram, GA, One aunt: Sarah Williams of Albany, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 11, 2016 from 12 Noon to 1 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY.

Funeral services will be Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 1 PM in the funeral home. The Rev. Norman Graves will officiate.

Burial with military honors will be in the Sullivan County Veteran's Cemetery, Liberty, NY.
