Victor H. VonKampen

Victor H. VonKampen of Liberty, NY a retired, 35 years New York State Trooper and a lifelong area resident, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Roscoe Residential Health Care Facility. He was 95.

The son of the late Herman G. and Gladys (Zoerb) VonKampen, he was born September 12, 1928 in Sidney, NY.

Victor proudly served our country in the US Navy on the USS Midway from 1947-1950. He was a member, a past Exalted Ruler and State Trustee of the Liberty Elks Lodge # 1545. Additionally served as Chief of the Rockland Hose Company, Roscoe, NY and Fire Investigator for Sullivan County Board of Fire and was a member of the Town of Rockland Planning Board. He loved the Shady Acres Hunting Club, constantly refurbishing their cabin, anticipating the yearly hunting season, and displaying the yearly deer. Vic leaves a legacy of community and public service.

Survivors include his daughter, Terry VonKampen-Breithaupt and 4 grandsons of Seattle, WA., and many many friends. His absence is felt larger than life and deeply missed.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sharon, son William, son-in-law Gregory Breithaupt, and brothers John and Richard VonKampen.

All are welcome to attend a visitation Saturday October 25, 2025 at 10:30 AM followed by a memorial ceremony by the Liberty Elks, Roscoe - Rockland Hose Company, State Police presence, and military honor offered by the Sullivan County Veterans Coalition at 11:30 AM in the Harris Funeral Home, West Street, Liberty, NY. Please remain, acknowledging a loyal friend, servant, and life well lived and remembered, sending Vic to a new journey with the playing of Taps and rifle fire.

Vic would love any memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or dog and cat food to the Rock Hill Animal Shelter.
