William C. Cogswell

William C. "Bill" Cogswell of Liberty, NY, a lifelong area resident and a retired Supervisor for the Village of Liberty Water Department died Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at the Westchester County Medical Center in Valhalla, NY.  He was 82.

The son of the late William L. and Evelyn Lang Cogswell, he was born August 12, 1941 in Liberty, NY.

Bill was a member for over 60 years and is a Past Chief of the J. C. Young Hose Company in Liberty.  He was a former Town of Liberty Town Historian, and a member of the Sullivan County Historical Society where he served on the board.  Bill had an amazing "green thumb"; he was an avid gardener.  He will be remembered as being extremely talented and generous.  He enjoyed being a part of the Woods Automotive Coffee Clutch.

Survivors include three sons, William Cogswell of Stuart, FL, Robert Cogswell of the State of Washington and Lee Cogswell and his wife Alyson of Liberty, NY; one brother, Kenny Cogswell of Liberty, NY; one sister, Nancy Collins and her husband Jim of Youngsville, NY; five grandchildren, Ashlee Galbraith (Tyler), Zachary Cogswell (Jessie), Travis Cogswell (Kaylae), Ethan Cogswell, and Alexandra Cogswell (Ryan); three great grandchildren, McKinley Cogswell, Eliza Cogswell and Skye Galbraith.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline D. Cogswell on September 14, 2018.

Private family funeral services and burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Liberty, NY.
