William J. Fendsack

William (Bill) Fendsack, 83, of Myrtle Beach, SC, formerly of Norwich, NY and Rotterdam, NY left us way too soon on September 2, 2026 after a courageous battle with cancer.

William was born on April 10, 1943 to Alice and William Fendsack in Carbondale, PA.

William was raised by his mother, Alice, and his stepfather, Walter Coddington in Liberty, NY. William graduated from Liberty Central high school in 1960 and then went on to study at the Albany Business College. After graduation, he joined the US Navy for four years. Upon the end of his enlistment he moved to Norwich, NY where he started his career with Victory Markets/ Great American food stores. William became the Vice President of transportation until the company closed. Throughout his career William held other management transportation positions with AWI Wholesale Foods, Price Chopper food stores, and Alliant food service. While in Norwich, William was the Vice President of the Chenango County Stop DWI, and involved with the Norwich Chamber of Commerce regarding the upgrading of State Route 12. William was a life member of the Elks and a member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.

William is survived by his wife Cynthia Fendsack; his children, Kelli (Philip) Curley, of Norwich, BJ Fendsack (Sarah Amante), of Barneveld, NY, Brian Fendsack of Brunswick, NY; and his stepchildren, Scott Johnson and Joanna (Jason) Butterfield. William is also proud of his grandchildren Kaitlyn, Brandon, Michael, Trinity, Ryan, Layla, & Izzy and step grandchildren Dayton, James, Zachary, Brianna, Shannon and great grandchildren Paizlee, Catilynne, Zander, and Lily.

During his retirement William continued his interest in transportation by becoming a bus driver for Greyhound and Sunway Charters in Myrtle Beach. This gave him and his wife Cindy the opportunity to see much more of the country and share their love for travel with others as she was his companion on many trips. William’s love for travel and the open road also led to him and Cindy driving by car to all forty-eight states and some Provinces of Canada, including the Atlantic Provinces. William's vast knowledge of travel and navigation always meant he was eager and able to provide very specific details and routes for any road trip planned by his family and friends William was an avid golfer and enjoyed the many years living in Myrtle Beach, SC on golf courses where he would play as much as possible. When they were not enjoying their home in SC, William and Cindy were fortunate to spend several summers in their camper in the Adirondacks as a way to be closer to their family. Everyone knew him as Bill and always knew he was a loving father, stepfather, grandfather, and husband. Bill will be greatly missed but never forgotten as he was a man of great integrity with a kind heart. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be given to the Norwich American Cancer Society or the Norwich Hospice.

Graveside services will be private.
