William James Korth, a resident of Conyers, Rockdale County, Georgia, died on July 12, 2026 at Piedmont Rockdale Hospital, Conyers, Georgia. He was 80 years old.
The son of Howard and Loretta (Lyden) Korth, he was born on January 12, 1946 in Callicoon, Sullivan County, NY.
He grew up in Callicoon Center, NY. He attended Jeffersonville-Youngsville Central School and graduated from there in June of 1964. He considered his high school years
some of the best years of his life.
He attended Sullivan County Community College and was later drafted into the U.S. Army and sent to Vietnam. Bill was part of the US Army 9th Infantry Division and eventually found himself serving in the Mekong River Delta area of Vietnam where there was fierce fighting. He served his country well and was later awarded the Bronze Star with the "V" device, Purple Heart, and several other medals. He was a true American Hero.
After his time in the US Army, he became a NYS Corrections Officer for a while and then decided to move to the Atlanta, GA area and worked for Emory University Hospital in Security, working his way up to Director of Safety.
He made many trips back to Callicoon Center to visit his parents. After his father's death, he came up to visit his Mom at the Ellen Memorial Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Honesdale, PA. He usually would time one of those visits at the time of the Wayne County Fair in Honesdale, PA and would help the Staff take his Mom and other residents to the Fair. He was a very kind and considerate person.
He is survived by several cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Loretta (Lyden) Korth and several cousins. He was not married nor did he have any children.
A Graveside Service will take place on September 10, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the Callicoon Center Cemetery, Callicoon Center, NY. Pastor Virginia Bossley will Officiate.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
