William F. Sutherland

William F. Sutherland “Bill” of Parksville, NY died Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Garnet Health Medical Center, Middletown, NY. He was 80.

The son of the late William P. and Roma L. Sorocco Sutherland, he was born August 23, 1945 in Monticello, NY.

Bill was a retired BCI Investigator and Trooper for Troop F. After retirement, he owned and operated Elegance and Oak Furniture Store in Nanuet, NY. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He had been a member of the Aden Night Riders Snowmobile Club, a member of the Liberty Elks Lodge # 1545, and a communicant at St. Peter's Church in Liberty.

Known to many as the life of the party, Bill rarely missed a chance to tell a story, crack a joke, or lend a helping hand. No matter how tough the situation, Bill was someone you could always count on. He liked to keep things light, enjoyed good company, and had a way of leaving people laughing.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Meade Sutherland; his children, Michael Sutherland and his partner Stacy Babcock of Parksville, NY, Daniel Sutherland and his wife Pam of Monroe, NY, and Stephanie Hansen and her husband Chad of Tomkins Cove, NY; his sister, Margaret “Peggy” Morgans and her husband Lynn of Parksville, NY; his brother, Jon Sutherland and his wife Justine of Parksville, NY; his grandchildren, Caitlyn, Joseph, Emily, Zack, Dena and Lillian; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, and one sister, Maria Ackerley and her husband Gene.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at 12:45 PM in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 264 No. Main Street, Liberty, NY. Father Edward Bader will officiate.
