Elizabeth "Jackie" Horner Goldstein

Elizabeth “Jackie” Horner Goldstein of Liberty, NY, a dance professional, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Orange Regional Medical Center, Middletown, NY.

The daughter of the late Jackson C. and Esther Collins Horner, she was born July 9, 1932 in Gallipolis, OH. Because of her father’s military service, Jackie traveled at a young age to Tampa and St. Petersburg, and many naval bases – ending in Baltimore and Washington, DC.  She started dancing at age 3 and was teaching ballet and tap at her aunt’s dance studio by the age of 13.  At 17, she was on television and went to New York City with the June Taylor dancers and Rockettes and lived with them at the Famous “Rehearsal Club.”

She came to the Catskills to do a show at the Grossinger’s Hotel in March 1954, after traveling the US, Canada, South America and Mexico.  Grossinger’s Hotel asked her to stay and teach Ballroom/Latin Dancing, the rest is history.  She continued teaching at Grossinger’s Hotel until it closed in 1986.  After that, Jackie taught at Raleigh, Pines, Concord, Nevele, Granite, Fallsview, and Paramont Hotels into the 90’s until each of them closed.  She was asked to teach at the Beautiful Villa Roma Resort in the last few years – likewise joined the Fitness Center in Liberty, to teach dance.

She was predeceased by her wonderful and talented husband, Lou Goldstein, whom she met and married at Grossinger’s Hotel.

Jackie is survived by her loving family; her sister, Esther Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

Her life was a happy one, putting smiles on others faces, doing charity affairs, lectures, and choregraphing shows.  Above and beyond her happiest memories were teaching dance to guests in hotels and the stars of Hollywood and Broadway, who line her walls and were her friends.  Those were her magical moments and now she’s dancing with angels.
