Joan Schrader

Joan G. Schrader of Kauneonga Lake, NY, a homemaker and a long time area resident died on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh, NY, while surrounded by her loving family.   She was 85.

The daughter of the late Edward C. and Lillian Holmes Sunnekalb, she was born August 13, 1935 in Jersey City, NJ.

Survivors include two daughters, Lillian Ayala and her husband Edwin of Kiamesha Lake, NY and Vickie Kaufman and her companion Marshall Barrett of Liberty, NY; four sons, James Kaufman and his wife Maria of Middletown, NY, Philip Kaufman and his companion Judith Rose of Liberty, NY, Norman Silon and his wife Deborah of Old Towne, FL and Scott Silon and his companion Angela Foschino of Swan Lake, NY; two sisters, Jean Simons and her husband Martin of VA and MaryJane LaTronica and her husband Freddie of Milford, NJ; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her loving dog Charlie.

She was predeceased by her loving husband and caregiver, Harold J. Schrader on October 8, 2020.

Joan’s family would like to express their sincerest “thank you” to the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence’s staff and nurses for all of their care and support.

Visitation will be Monday, January 25, 2021 from 11 AM to 1 PM in the Harris Funeral Home, West St. at Buckley, Liberty, NY

Funeral services will be Monday, January 25, 2021 at 1 PM in the funeral home.  The Rev. James Kaufman will officiate. Social distancing guidelines will be in place, a certain number of people will be allowed in the funeral home at one time, facemasks are required.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Liberty, NY.

Memorial contributions in Joan’s name may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, 1 Sunrise Lane, Newburgh, NY 12550.

"On January 22, 2021, our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and HERO entered into eternal rest surrounded by her loving family. Our mother was always our Angel on earth and has now become our heavenly guardian Angel as our mom gained her wings. Our mother, Our HERO will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts. We thank GOD for allowing us the precious time that we had with our sweet mother. In the words of our mom, a very special prayer she held deep in her heart as a child and shared with us, Guardian Angel:
